Pas de Deux

A$1300.00

At first glance, Pas de Deux appears to depict a moment of harmony between two wild horses, their bodies intertwined in a graceful, almost balletic movement. Bathed in warm desert light, the pair seem united in a quiet and intimate exchange.
Yet the true story lies beneath the surface.
The stallion in the foreground is Tiago, a dominant wild horse of the Salt River, Tonto National Forest, Arizona. The younger horse is no stranger but a member of his own family band. As the younger male matures, the natural order of the herd begins to shift. One day he may challenge for leadership and claim mares of his own.
For now, that day has not yet arrived.
What appears to be a dance is, in reality, a ritual of warning and restraint. Tiago's posture projects authority, while the younger horse's pinned ears, tightened hindquarters and tucked tail reveal submission. The exchange is subtle, measured and deeply instinctive—a conversation conducted without violence, yet understood by both participants.
The title, Pas de Deux ("dance for two"), reflects this delicate balance between grace and power. Like dancers sharing a stage, the horses move through an ancient choreography of dominance, respect and succession.
Part of the Invictus Maneo series, this painting explores the enduring spirit of wild horses and the timeless struggles that shape life within the herd. The Latin phrase Invictus Maneo translates as "I remain unconquered," a tribute not only to individual strength but to the resilience of the wild itself.

The portrait of Jac hangs where l see it many times a day, reawakening the love we shared through our many years together. I get so much joy from this painting.

Deni captured his presence and gentle personality perfectly.
